Ghana and Singapore agree to continue visa waiver agreement

O n On April, 08 2025, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, granted an audience to Hawazi Daipi, Non-Resident High Commission of Singapore to Ghana. During the meeting, the two diplomats agreed to maintain the visa waiver agreement between the two countries. They also reviewed their diplomatic, cultural and economic relations and explored ways to foster ties in other critical areas.
In practice, citizens of Ghana and Singapore can enjoy a 90-day visa-free stay. To enter Singapore or Ghana, they need a passport valid for at least six months beyond their intended stay. Visitors must also provide a valid International Certification of Vaccination for Yellow Fever and comply with any other relevant immigration laws or respective countries.

No diplomatic presence
At this point, Ghana and Singapore do not have diplomatic missions. But, the Honorary Consulate General of Ghana in Singapore provides visa services to persons wishing to visit Ghana on official duties, business, visit family and tourism. It also renders limited consular services to Ghanaian residents in Singapore1.
Educational exchange
Ghana and Singapore have agreed to deepen cooperation, through trade, education exchange, and technology. The Minister asked the High Commissioner to consider the possibility of offering scholarships to Ghanaian students to study in Singapore.
Trade
Singapore is a global economic powerhouse with a total yearly export of US$333 billion. Although Ghana only recorded an annual total export of US$27.1 billion in 2023, Singapore sees the country as an entry point to the West African market for Singapore. In 2023, Singapore export to Ghana totalled US$117 million. During the same year, Singapore's export to Ghana consisted of refined petroleum products (US$54.4 million), malt extract (US$8.37 million), and passenger and cargo ships (US$5.19 million). Over the past five years, exports from Singapore to Ghana have decreased from US$154 million in 2018 to US$117 million in 2023.
During the same 2023-2024 period, Ghana exported US$45.4 million worth of goods to Singapore. The principal products that Ghana exported to Singapore were cocoa beans ($US30.1 million), cocoa paste (US$11.1 million), and coconuts, Brazil nuts, and cashews (US$1.05 million). Over the past five years, exports from Ghana to Singapore have decreased at an annualized rate of 19.9 percent, from US$138 million in 2018 to US$45.4 million in 2023.
