The GSE has two categories of listing, namely, the Main Board and the Ghana Alternative Market (GAX). The GAX lists asmall and medium-sized enterprises with strong growth potential. The two categories lists common stocks (ordinary shares), preferred stocks (preference shares), and exchange traded funds. Ghana stock markets has two indices: The GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) and GSE Financial Stock Index (GSE-FSI).

The banking financial and insurance sector dominates the GSE with a contribution of 50 percent of listed companies. Only six economic sectors out of 16 active sectors are represented on the exchange.
