Since January 2025, the Ghana Cedi has recovered after a long depreciation run that accelerated with the outbreak of the Covid-19 in 2020. This has created an unexpected "dollarization" of the economy as the perception of the Cedi as a weak and unstable currency persists. The USD become an un-official substitute despite regulations that bans the use of USD for domestic transactions.
